Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded in the negative when asked if he was pressured by former American leader Donald Trump during their 2019 talks. This is reported by UNIAN.
“No. I didn’t think we were under pressure, ”Zelensky said. “I have always believed that we are an independent country, and I feel like an ambitious, independent person who needs to learn from the best every day.”
“I said quite ambitiously: I am the president of my country. Nobody can put pressure on us, ”Zelensky added.
In September 2019, a scandal erupted in the United States due to the emergence of information that Trump exerted pressure on Zelensky during a telephone conversation in July of the same year. It was reported that the American president demanded that in exchange for providing military and financial assistance in Ukraine, an investigation into the activities of Hunter Biden, the son of Trump’s rival Joe Biden, should be opened. The Democratic Party initiated an impeachment procedure, as a result of which Trump was acquitted.
