70-year-old Haim Garon and his wife crashed in a private plane yesterday. Garon witnessed the prosecution on Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption case. He is accused of abuse of office and corruption during his tenure.

On Monday, 70-year-old Haim Garon was killed in a private plane crash near the Greek island of Samos. The man was one of the prosecution witnesses in the trial of Benjamin Netanyahu, head of the Israeli opposition and former prime minister. This was reported by the YnetNews portal.

A single-engine airplane apparently coming from Israel disappeared from the radar shortly before landing at Samos airfield. The plane failed to land and crashed into the water in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea. Garona’s wife Este was also on board and was also killed. The bodies of the two inmates were found during a search and rescue operation.

The Jerusalem District Court resumed three trials against Israeli opposition leader and former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. He is accused of abuse of office and corruption. The public prosecutor assumed that the politician had belonged to the telecommunications company Bezeq had granted preferences in return for positive reporting on the activities of his cabinet.

So far, Netanyahu appeared at court hearings on May 24, 2020, as well as February 8 and April 5, 2021. In May of last year, he confirmed that he understood the gist of the indictment and on February 8, 2021, he pleaded not guilty.

Netanyahu was the leader of the Israeli government for twelve consecutive years starting in 2009. On June 13, he was replaced as Prime Minister by Naftali Bennett. After the parliamentary elections on March 23, 2021, he formed a new government coalition.
