VIDEO: Philippe Clement: "We go on the field against PSG to score ourselves"

One more night of sleep and then Club Brugge will open its Champions League debates with a gala match against the star ensemble of PSG. Coach Philippe Clement sounds combative the day before the game: “We are not going to hang in our sixteen for 90 minutes.”

Clement: “We only have to win”

A swirling Jan Breydel will be waiting for Messi and co tomorrow for Club Brugge’s first match in the CL. Philippe Clement encouraged his team in the run-up to the race.

“For some guys it will be the first time they play against players of that level. But I emphasized to them this week that those stars are also players with two arms and two legs.”

“They have a lot of quality, but so do we. In terms of run-up it might be one of the easiest games of the season, because we only have to win and nothing to lose.”

“PSG is at a very high level, but it gets interesting. Everyone dreamed of this moment as a child. This will be the chance for them to prove what they can do against the best players in the Champions League.”

I’ve told my players that those PSG stars are just players with two arms and two legs.

Clement: “We go on the field to score ourselves”

Clement did not want to say anything about his war plan. “I never tell you in advance, but we are not going to hang out with 11 players in our sixteen for 90 minutes, then you will score goals anyway. We go on the field to score goals ourselves and play collectively. That is our football.”

“Of course we can’t play the same game as against Ostend. We will have to find a good balance. We have a plan in attack and defense”, Clement remained a bit mysterious.

“What if the three greats (Messi-Mbappe-Neymar) start at the front? That will change something for us. But we will see tomorrow. I want to see a team that starts from its own strength and does not focus on the opponent.”

All of Europe will be watching Messi’s European debut at PSG tomorrow. Where does the Argentinian stand in the hierarchy of the best players ever, according to Clement? “Number one for me. But that’s a personal story. Ronaldo won’t agree, but Messi is the best I’ve ever seen.”
