TPMP – Invited in “Touche pas à mon poste” on C8 this Tuesday, September 14, Jean-Michel Blanquer was questioned by Matthieu Delormeau on wearing the uniform at school.
“Eric Zemmour is for a return to uniform, are you too?”, Asks the columnist of Cyril Hanouna’s show.
“Me, I never had a problem with the principle of the uniform for several reasons”, answers the Minister of National Education, before developing (to listen in the video extract below): “The first is that we have a problem (…), that of the brands (or of) the re-entry allowance, that is to say the fact that there is competition to the purchase of very expensive consumer goods between children, and then we put in their heads the objectives of obtaining such branded clothing or such branded object, and that is a very bad thing. So this is a virtue of a common habit. ”

“Are you in favor of the uniform?” Then reminds Matthieu Delormeau.
“I am in favor of establishments being free to be able to do so,” replied Jean-Michel Blanquer. “We cannot do that if there is no support from the community, that is to say from the parents of the pupils, the pupils, the adults. I myself have contributed to ensuring that an establishment, of which I have contributed to the foundation, which is the boarding school of excellence in Sourdun (in Seine-et-Marne, Editor’s note), has the uniform. Today they have it and that’s great. ”
“And if tomorrow we decided on the uniform for all, immediately, I think there would be a lot of counterproductive effects”, continues the minister. “It would have a cost, but we could assume (….).” “I am for it to be based on volunteering and for it to develop because it makes it possible to fight against a certain number of phenomena”, he concludes.
In 2018, Jean-Michel Blanquer declared that he considered it “useful” to wear a uniform at school, provided the measure is “consensus” at the local level.
“In some cases, it can be useful and it can only work if there is a certain local consensus or in any case a strong majority to wish it,” he said at the time on BFMTV.
