Why do the symptoms of covid persist after months and months of suffering from the disease and how can these patients be treated? This is the question for which the Aragonese Primary Care Research Group seeks an answer, which has launched a study with 73 patients who have overcome the disease and another 73 who suffer persistent covid.
This is the case of Patricia: it has been 7 months since she contracted the disease. “I wake up tired, with a headache and dizziness – although that symptom is less and less -, mental fog (there are times when the words do not come out and I cannot carry on a conversation), the screams bother me a lot and they echo a lot in the ear and in the head and there are times that it is difficult for me to catch air but my lungs are good “, has described Patricia in Hoy por Hoy Zaragoza.
They have the symptoms but their organs are fine. The vaccine also affects your condition. “We are seeing situations that in some cases improve and in others the symptoms worsen,” explains Rosa Magallón, a primary care physician and member of this research group.

73 people with persistent covid and another 73 who have overcome the disease undergo a good number of tests, with the aim of finding treatments.
“We do some fairly exhaustive genetic, histochemical, biochemical analyzes … and a series of tests, tests, analytics or specific questionnaires to assess their mental health,” Magallón detailed.
It is the only study of these characteristics that is registered in Spain and that fills patients with persistent covid with hope. “There is light at the end of the tunnel and it is investigated; and they still take some medication and we can live again,” says Patricia.
Magallón hopes that this research, which has the support of the University of Zaragoza and the Aragonese Institute for Health Research, will yield results.
