The police last night tried to apprehend a young man who on Monday night attacked with shotguns a group of men who were playing soccer on a lighted field in Graneros. Seven of the athletes ended up with minor injuries after the impact of the pellets scattered during the shooting. They received first aid at the local Primary Care Center (CAPS) and were later referred to the “Miguel Belascuain” Regional Hospital in Concepción. There they remained hospitalized until yesterday morning when they were discharged. According to witnesses, the aggressor arrived at the sports field with a sawed-off shotgun that he had taken from his grandmother’s house. Without a word, he would have fired at least three shots. He immediately fled. The boy, who would be a minor, is individualized and is being apprehended. “We do not know for now the motives for the attack. It is not ruled out that the young person has acted under the influence of a prohibited substance. That will be determined in the investigations and expertise that were initiated and will be deepened once the attacker is apprehended, ”said Chief Commissioner Raúl Cornejo, chief of the Southern Regional Police Department. Neighbors in the area maintain that the aggressor would have reacted to jokes made by some of the footballers, because moments before the match he was on the field and left enraged by the mockery of which he would have been the object. A moment later he returned armed. Prosecutor Miguel Varela, from the Serious Crimes Prosecutor’s Office, intervenes in the case.
Wounded from Aguilares
Until yesterday there was only one young woman hospitalized in the “Miguel Belascuain” Regional Hospital of the 17 victims who at dawn on Monday were hit by a truck on the new route 38 in Aguilares. In total there were about 30 boys and girls, between 18 and 25 years old, who remained drinking and dancing on the road at the height of the embankment of the elevated bridge on Route 331. A Toyota Hilux van heading south ran over them around five o’clock. The driver, scared and in fear of being attacked in retaliation, fled the scene and went directly to the police station to alert about what happened. Most of the victims were reported to have suffered minor breaks and multiple injuries. At first 17 young people were admitted to the local hospital; then five were referred, due to their injuries, to that of Concepción. In that hospital it was reported that only 17-year-old Agustina Sarmiento is still hospitalized with fractures in her legs and arms.
