For the first summer since winning the Premier League title in 2016, Leicester City have resisted offers from each of their star players.

Reports linking James Maddison to Arsenal never took off as Harvey Barnes signed a new long-term deal just as speculation about a possible move to Liverpool began to surface.

Leicester, you see, is desperate to get rid of that “sales club” label. And what better way to do that than by keeping your best players out of the clutches of your Premier League rivals?

In theory, the idea is good. In practice, however, this may be easier said than done.

Because if Wilfred Ndidi, James Justin, Wesley Fofana, Kelechi Iheanacho, Timothy Castagne and Maddison are all attached for the long term, the same cannot be said of Youri Tielemans.

Could Youri Tielemans leave Leicester for Liverpool in January?

The brilliant Belgian has less than two years left.

And while two years is a long time in football, that means Leicester only have two transfer windows left if they are to extract maximum value from a man who cost him £ 40million in July 2019 .

“There is no real update. I am open to everything. The transfer market just closed but I want to keep as many options as I can open up, ”said the former Monaco bench warmer, somehow managing to say the same while saying so little (Sky Sports) .

“As long as I’m here, I’ll give my all for the club. I have done it before, but I will do it even more. The contract situation is just something that happens in football, it is a normal situation.

“There are ongoing discussions. I’m not saying I’m going to sign, I’m not saying I’m not going to sign. We will see.”

If Tielemans thought his comments would end speculation about his future – Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are big fans according to The Telegraph while Fabrizio Romano has linked Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid – he was very wrong.

To many Leicester fans on Twitter, this sounds like the start of a long goodbye:
