The Centro Hospitalar do Médio Tejo (CHMT) opened an inquiry to determine the causes of death of an 81-year-old woman on suspicion of clinical error, the institution revealed this Tuesday.
In order to determine what happened, the Board of Directors immediately determined that an investigation process should be carried out, as a matter of urgency, with a view to investigating the causes of the occurrence, its consequences and the responsibility of the intervening parties. The CHMT awaits the outcome of the inquiry”, reads a reply sent to the Lusa agency.
The woman was reportedly attacked three weeks ago by a goat, in the parish of Pego, in Abrantes, and sent to hospital.
However, as reported today by Jornal de Notícias, which cites a hospital source, the woman “did not have died as a result of the injuries caused by the animal, but due to the exchange of blood administered to her at the Hospital Center of Médio Tejo (CHMT) ”.
To Lusa, the CHMT “does not confirm the cause of death due to administration of wrong blood” and refers conclusions to the result of the investigation.
The Centro Hospitalar do Médio Tejo includes the hospitals of Abrantes, Tomar and Torres Novas, in the district of Santarém.
