Five people were left homeless today in Aldeia Galega da Merceana and Aldeia Gavinha, in Alenquer (Lisbon), following the heavy rainfall that was felt during the afternoon, the commander of the local Voluntary Firefighters told Lusa news agency.
According to Nuno Santos, at least three houses were flooded, of which one “in serious condition”, evicting five people.
To Lusa, the commander of the Merceana Volunteer Firefighters said that the people were taken to the homes of relatives.
Observing several floods that had occurred in that locality of Alenquer and nearby, Nuno Santos said, at 10:30 pm, that the cleaning and relief work was already being completed.
“We are in the final stage of cleaning roads, roads and supporting the cleaning of homes”, he maintained.
According to Nuno Santos, 49 workers were mobilized, supported by 15 vehicles, in the events recorded today in Aldeia Galega da Merceana and Aldeia Gavinha.
