On Sunday, the Japanese Ministry of Defense announced that a Russian An-26 aircraft had twice breached Japanese airspace off the north island of Hokkaido. The country asked Russia to refrain from repeated violations of its airspace.
The Japanese Ministry of Defense has claimed that the Russian An-26 aircraft twice breached the country’s airspace over the north island of Hokkaido on Sunday. It was indicated that Japanese interceptors were being used to receive the Russian aircraft. At the same time, the news agency reported Kyodothat the aircraft that is said to have violated Japanese airspace was a civilian aircraft.
The Japanese government sent a protest note to the Russian Federation in connection with the alleged border violation, demanding that such incidents should not be allowed to recur. This was announced by the Secretary General of the Japanese Cabinet of Ministers Katsunobu Katō at a regular press conference.
According to Kato, Japanese authorities are currently analyzing the process to find out why the Russian plane allegedly entered Japanese airspace twice.
