Declares a nephew of Felipe González as accused by the millionaire subsidies of Invercaria

This Monday began in the Fourth Section of the Seville Court the trial of the third separate piece of the macrocause of corruption of Invercaria and that it investigates the irregularities detected in the aforementioned company, attached to the Andalusia Agency for Innovation and Development (IDEA) of the Junta de Andalucía.

Said public entity would have granted loans worth 60 million euros between 2005 and 2010 – coinciding with the mandates of the Socialists Manuel Chaves and José Antonio Griñán at the head of the Andalusian government- for 270 business projects.

Almost ten years after the start of the judicial investigation, this Monday the trial began, in which the accused are listed as former president and former CEO of Invercaria Tomás Pérez-Sauquillo; the former CFO Antonio Garrido and two former Promotion Directors, Cristóbal Cantos and Juan María González Mejías, the latter’s nephew of the former socialist president of the Government Felipe Gonzalez.

At the beginning of this first session, the president of the court has realized that Pérez-Sauquillo, sentenced to three and a half years in prison for the separate piece corresponding to the loan from Invercaria to the company Aceitunas Tatis; has formally requested be exempted from the obligation to appear to the entire oral hearing, except on the day on which he testifies as the defendant “once the rest of the evidence has been developed” provided for the entire trial.

In this sense, the president of the court has announced that on Thursday of this week a videoconference will be held for Pérez-Sauquillo, from Madrid, to “confirm” this request, something to which neither party has objected.

They will testify at the end of the oral hearing

The three remaining defendants then appeared briefly to state that they are aware of the indictment formulated against him and to formalize his request to give a statement at the end of the session, once the anticipated testimony had been taken, a request that initially came from the defense of Cristóbal Cantos and to which the rest of the accused have adhered.

It has been in this series of brief appearances of the accused, when Cantos has declared “not guilty” of the charges attributed against him, González Mejías has declared “innocent” and Nieto Garrido also “not guilty”.

The penalties of the Prosecutor’s Office

In its indictment, the Public Ministry claims for the former president of Invercaria six years in prison for a continuing crime of embezzlement and nine years of special disqualification for the exercise of administration and management functions of entities directly or indirectly owned by a public Administration for the crime of prevarication.

Likewise, the Prosecutor’s Office claims for Garrido six years in prison for the continuing crime of embezzlement, while for the two former directors of Promotion, he asks for three and a half years in prison for the same crime. As regards civil liability, it requests that Pérez-Sauquillo indemnify Venture Invercaria in the amount of 90,224.16 euros; that the former financial director do so in the amount of 232,446.32 euros and that the former directors of Promotion pay 12,960 and 29,928.26 euros, respectively.
