In the Saxon state capital, the power went out for up to an hour in the whole city on Monday at around 2 p.m. Elevators and trams stood still, nothing worked in households and supermarkets. The traffic light system also gave up the ghost.

In the entire Dresden city area and the surrounding villages, the power went out on Monday lunchtime, like that Saxon newspaper reported. In addition to the entire city area, Pirna, Heidenau, Radebeul, Wilsdruff, Freital, Klingenberg and Rabenau were also affected.

The Dresden public transport company announced that trams had come to a standstill. All traffic lights in the city also went out, and calls were not possible at times. The fire brigade was called on numerous missions, including people who were stuck in stuck elevators.

The lights on the electronic departure boards at the main train station and Neustadt train station went out for about half an hour, and the electronic door systems in shops went on strike, among other things.

A spokeswoman for the local power company SachsenEnergie said:

“There was a major disturbance in the high-voltage, medium-voltage and low-voltage network.”

There was a technical defect in the Dresden Süd substation at 1:53 p.m. The cause is still unclear. When the system started up around 2.30 p.m. there was a second failure that again covered the entire city area. Electricity has been flowing everywhere again since 3:30 p.m.
