Pablo Casado looks good in the near future. It is seen in Moncloa, sitting in the chair from which he receives the opposition leaders. And he looks at his predecessors so much that he has dared to choose the mythical bullring of Valencia to close the traveling convention that the PP has planned for three weeks from now. It must be that Mariano Rajoy and José María Aznar also see it that way, because both will embrace the popular leader in the event that aims to catapult him as an alternative.
The two former presidents of the Government and the PP will participate in the caravan, which starts on the 27th of this month in Santiago de Compostela and ends, after crossing all of Spain, on the weekend of October 2 and 3 in Valencia. The news, which was already rumored this Tuesday in the groups after the informative breakfast offered by Casado in Madrid, has been confirmed by its number two, Teodoro Garcia Egea.
The events will consist of round tables, rallies with party stars, speeches of political and economic significance … and spotlights, many spotlights. One week traveling through Spain, from the northwest to the southeast, in an itinerary that pretends to be an imitation of the American electoral campaigns, with colored buses and balloons, old glories and new values, ideas and alternatives of government.
Who will not get on the bus or the stage will be Albert Rivera, whose name was the tastiest and most evil speculation in recent months. The former president of Ciudadanos, now a practicing lawyer, has been hired by the PP for various legal cases in recent months. And he has been haunted by the popular leadership, in case he wanted to be seen with the blue seagull behind him, lest the process of absorption (of voters) to the orange party advise it.
The official version of the PP is that Rivera “has left politics and is not interested.” The environment of the former liberal leader is that he would never do something like that, which could be interpreted as high treason by his successor, Inés Arrimadas. The real one, who knows what it is.
At the tables of the national convention there will be not only former presidents but also experts from civil society. The PP seeks that this convention is a “milestone” for present the alternative of Pablo Casado to the Government of Pedro Sánchez and also show that it has the “open doors”. Hence the siren songs to Rivera …
García Egea has confirmed this information on Antena 3, in an interview in which he has also referred to the underground race for the leadership of the PP in Madrid. The president of the Community, Isabel Day Ayuso, has already confirmed that he will present his candidacy. And the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, he lets himself be wanted, postponing his decision until a month before the congress, scheduled for June 2022, as revealed this Wednesday by EL ESPAÑOL.
On that date, Almeida will let Casado decide whether or not to open the fight in public. And its secretary general has given clues, stating that the current model, with a third figure (that of Pío García Escudero), “it works”.
García Egea has assured that, as number two of the national leadership of the PP, he cannot prohibit anyone from attending. But the party is “a means to an end” and at the moment they cannot dedicate themselves to the congresses, but to “win the elections” … although there are none in the making (supposedly).
