Basel – Sunday, September 5th, 2021, 10:58 p.m.
Thanks to the goalless draw against Switzerland in World Cup qualification, European champions Italy have now been unbeaten for no less than 36 games. Roberto Mancini’s team is now the sole European record holder and is level with world record holder Brazil.
In the 1-1 draw against Bulgaria, the “Squadra Azzurra” was able to set the record of 35 games for world champions Spain. Italy’s last defeat so far came in September 2018 against Portugal.
Roberto Mancini’s team could even win at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, but playmaker Jorginho missed a penalty in the 53rd minute.
Italy leads Group C with eleven points, followed by Switzerland (7), Bulgaria (5), Northern Ireland (4) and Lithuania.
