This year, the Valdivia International Film Festival (FICValdivia) will be held, for the second consecutive year, virtually. The contest will take place between October 11 and 17 with a free program that, little by little, begins to be broadcast.
In this way, the festival can be enjoyed from different territories, which represents an advantage over previous editions. Raul Camargo, director of the contest, indicated that, on this occasion, the public will be able to participate in the festival “from the safety of their homes.”
“For it, it will be enough that they enter the page of our contest, where the information will be at the beginning of October regarding how to enter our platform to be able to enjoy all the programming ”, he said.
On this occasion, the festival will begin with two short films by Chilean directors: The bones, animation by Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña, and Alice dreamed of a lighthouse by José Luis Torres Leiva when we have the information.
“The bones It will be premiered worldwide at the Venice Film Festival and then he goes to Valdivia to open the contest together with a great gift that another emblematic filmmaker has given us for our history, such as José Luis Torres Leiva, who has given us the premiere of Alice dreamed of a lighthouse, which is his new short film ”, explained Raúl Camargo.
“It must be said that this short film anticipates what will be the new short film by Jose Luis Torres Leiva and, in this case, it is starring a very great national actress: Amparo Noguera. It is based on stories by the Mexican writer Jazmina Barrera and Amparo is rather a simile of the logic of the writer, of the imaginary, of the creative search, in this case symbolized with the lighthouses. It is a beautiful film that we like to have opening with The bones”, the festival director pointed out.
Regarding the two closing films, the festival includes the short films Notes, incantations: Part II, Carmela by the Ecuadorian director Alexandra Cuesta and Tropic of Capricorn by the Brazilian Juliana Antunes. As Camargo explained, both filmmakers have been linked to the festival’s history: “In Alexandra’s case, her film is part of a series, where we already saw the first part last year. This second part is called Carmela, because it is a very intimate film of rescue of the figure of his grandmother ”.
“In that logic of the intimate, it is also installed Tropic of Capricorn (…). In this film, the director Juliana Antunes, who won a few years ago with her first short film Baroness, makes an exploration of their own identity based on family memories and archives, ”he said.
For Raúl Camargo, both the opening and closing works are linked to the recent history of the festival. In that sense, he maintained: “We are very happy to open and close the contest with these films.”
The festival also includes a selection of feature films where works such as The sky is red by Francina Carbonell, My brothers daydream by Claudia Huaiquimilla, Transvestite crossing by Nicolás Videla, Each one has its each by Alexis Donoso and Under the cover of heaven by Diego Acosta. Meanwhile, the selection of Latin American Children’s Short Film includes Egg white by Sol Infante Zamudio and Andrea Treszczan Azar, The tree has already been planted by Irene Blei and The box of my memories by Camila Ortega Puebla when we have the information.
The Valdivia International Film Festival, an activity that is organized by the Universidad Austral de Chile, will be held free of charge, although the exhibitions will have a limited number of reproductions. The final program will be published soon and all the details will be available at Ficvaldivia.cl.
