Before a large security operation mounted by the Government, the “March of the Stones” began minutes before 4:00 p.m., a call made to pay tribute to the victims of the coronavirus in Argentina and to reject the handling of the pandemic by Alberto’s administration. Fernandez.
“Lolo”, “Tete”, “Nora”, “Neuquén” are some of the words written on the stones that the protesters were depositing in memory of the victims of the covid-19.
“I came to remind my husband that today marks 3 months of his death from pneumonia. And of a brother from the heart who died the same week,” said a woman in front of Quinta de Olivos. “We were all infected and we could not go see him, or fire him. It is a very ugly situation: you are alone and you can not do anything,” he added.
The mobilization gained strength after the scandal over the social gatherings during the confinement that were known in recent days and that were registered in the Quinta de Olivos, one of the points of the march.
The suggestion came from user Ani Marino (@animarino) on Twitter. “It would be necessary to take a stone for each person killed by Covid to Casa Rosada and leave it there. Do not throw them away, leave them there,” he wrote.
What began as one more idea in that social network gathered massive support from other users and became a formal call, amid the uproar over social visits to the President’s residence.
The proposal, the organizers point out, is simple: carry a small stone in representation of each family member or friend killed by the covid. One of the promoters is the Tucumán illustrator Maldita Weasel. He gained notoriety in November with a drawing of Abigail, the girl with cancer that her father had to take to Santiago del Estero because of the restrictions and who died last February.
The explanation of the mode of mobilization is explained by the journalist Miguel Wiñaski: “The accumulation of stones as a funeral rite has millennia. The stone symbolizes eternity, the perenniality of mourning and pain. A march of the stones is a funeral march, a march of silence, a nonviolent expression, a mineral ornament, which is solid memory “.
