Footage has been posted online showing Afghan President Ashraf Ghani boarding a plane to leave the country. The video was published on the Tasnim News Telegram channel.
On departure, Ghani was accompanied by several people, including bodyguards. The politician left his post and flew to Tajikistan earlier today. A RIA Novosti source in the Taliban said that control of Afghanistan was transferred to a council, which included the head of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah and the country’s ex-president Hamid Karzai.
On August 15, Taliban fighters came close to Kabul and surrounded the city. In addition, the Taliban announced the establishment of control throughout Afghanistan. The administration of Afghanistan has now been transferred to the interim council. The new council includes the head of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah and former President Hamid Karzai. The council will hand over power to the Taliban.
Earlier, a RIA Novosti source said that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani agreed to resign, flew from Kabul to Tajikistan, from where he will go to a third country.
