The fifth wave of the pandemic in Spain begins to remit. New infections, daily deaths and accumulated incidence are already falling compared to last week and 14 days ago. In addition, the lowest number of cases in the last month has been reported, and ICUs note a decrease in admissions.
The autonomous communities have notified this Tuesday to the Ministry of Health 15,680 new cases of Covid-19, 8,001 of them diagnosed in the last 24 hours. These figures are lower than those of the same day last week, when 20,327 positives were reported, indicating a slight downward trend in the evolution of the pandemic.
The total number of infections in Spain has already risen to 4,643,450 since the start of the pandemic, according to official statistics. The cumulative incidence in the last 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 528.38, up from 549.06 yesterday. In the past two weeks, a total of 250,722 positives have been registered.
In this Tuesday’s report 102 new deaths have been added, compared to 130 last Tuesday. Up to 82,227 people with a positive diagnostic test have died since the virus arrived in Spain, according to data collected by the Ministry. In the last week, 284 people with a confirmed positive coronavirus diagnosis have died in Spain.
Nowadays, there are 10,001 patients admitted for Covid-19 throughout Spain (10,411 yesterday) and 1,987 in the ICU (2,031 yesterday). In the last 24 hours, there have been 1,175 admissions (1,047 yesterday) and 1,519 discharges (511 yesterday). The occupancy rate of beds occupied by coronavirus stands at 8.48% (8.83% yesterday) and in ICUs at 21.54% (21.98% yesterday).
Between July 31 and August 6, the autonomous communities have carried out 1,035,202 diagnostic tests, of which 675,150 have been PCR and 360,052 antigen tests, with an overall rate per 100,000 inhabitants of 2,201.33. The positivity rate stands at 13.81%, compared to 13.9% yesterday.
