Mexico City.- The epidemiologist and undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, assured that the Covid-19 pandemic it has not become a health emergency that is affecting more severely teenagers and children in Mexico.

During the Health Pulse in The Morning, López-Gatell denied the belief that the pandemic has now become exclusive to minors in the country and the rest of the world.

Hugo Lopez-Gatell reported that there is no scientific support that shows that Covid-19 is focusing on this sector of the population, even highlighted that the behavior of infections and deaths in Mexicans, has behaved in the same way between the second and third waves.

The secretary of Health made this clarification before the imminent return to face-to-face classes that will be held in the following weeks, once the 2021-2022 school year begins, and the fear of parents of sending their children to educational centers.

However, the Federal Government has insisted on returning to the classroom, indicating that despite the epidemiological traffic light, face-to-face classes will be declared an essential activity to resume school activities in the new normal.

Pregnant women should be vaccinated

On the other hand, Hugo López-Gatell recognized a lag in vaccination against Covid-19 in pregnant women in Mexico, for which he made a call to this sector of the population to go to the brigades.

Dr. López-Gatell assured that the vaccine is totally safe for pregnant women, as well as the baby they carry, however he recognized the fear that exists among pregnant women to apply the anticovid vaccine as well as the recommendations that their doctors have done not take the drug.

In this sense, Hugo López-Gatell called on pregnant women with 10 weeks of gestation or more, to be vaccinated, endorsing the effectiveness and safety of the doses.
