His 1st season with the pros is an absolute hit for Jordi Meeus. The 23-year-old sprinter became 4th in Nokere Koerse and the Belgian Championship on the road.

In the Tour of Hungary Meeus was even allowed to crow victory after a sprint victory against Dainese and Bauhaus (yesterday stage winner in the Tour of Poland).

Bora-Hansgrohe recently rewarded Meeus with a contract extension until the end of 2024 and is now also sending him on a journey of discovery to the Vuelta, his 1st major round. With the Estonian Martin Laas, Meeus gets another fast man along.

A major classification man is missing in the selection of the German team, although Grossschartner does have the number 9 of the previous Vuelta in the selection.

Also noteworthy is the Vuelta debut of neopro Anton Palzer, who until recently was a ski mountaineer.

The Vuelta ball will be kicked off on Saturday evening with a time trial of 7 kilometers.

In February Christophe Vandegoor had a conversation with Meeus in the podcast Jonge Wolven
