What kind of smartphone can withstand a space trip? This is the mobile that flew with Bezos and Branson

When we go on a trip we always carry our mobile to take photos of the places we are visiting, and it would not be for less the space trips that Bezos and Branson made this summer, since they also brought phones to take snapshots of what they They were watching from Earth orbit, but what kind of devices did they carry so they wouldn’t break?

Bullitt Group, pioneer in rugged mobiles and manufacturer of Cat phones, sent two devices on a round trip to space with resounding success thanks to the collaboration of a group of students that belongs to the University Collegiate School (United Kingdom). The objectives One of these trips was to expand students’ knowledge of engineering and expose the phones to more extreme environments to see how much pressure and temperatures they could withstand.

Ni Samsung, ni Apple, ni Xioami, The mobile that traveled beyond the Earth corresponds to the ‘Cat S62 Pro’ model and has an integrated thermal camera that is capable of surviving extreme situations, in addition, it can capture photos and videos from space. But do not think that Bezos and Branson carried this device in their pocket as if it were a conventional telephone, since it was launched into space by means of a helium balloon.

The mechanics of the launch consisted of the balloon was filled with enough helium to counteract the weight of the equipment and provide a rate of ascent of 5 meters / secondConsequently, the lack of atmospheric pressure in space caused the balloon to expand five times more in each direction.

Features of the mobile during the trip

On every space trip the duration of the ascent was almost two hours, while the descent to Earth was only half an hour. The height reached was 35 kilometers when it came into Earth’s orbit and reached a maximum temperature of 30º and a minimum temperature of -30º. Also, do not think that said mobile weighs a lot, because it weighs 1 kilo.
