The curve of the fifth wave continues to decline in Spain. One of the indicators that certify this is the accumulated incidence in the last 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants, which falls to 549 points, compared to 591 on Friday, a drop of 42 points. In the last week this incidence has dropped more than 100 points.

In addition, the autonomous communities have notified the Ministry of Health this Monday 39,638 new cases of COVID-19, a figure lower than those of the same day last week, when 55,939 positives were reported, which indicates a strong downward trend in the evolution of the pandemic.

The total number of infections in Spain already rises to 4,627,770 since the start of the pandemic, according to official statistics. In the past two weeks, a total of 260,531 positives have been registered.

However, a number that continues to worry is the number of deaths. In this Monday’s report they have been added 119 new deaths, less than last Monday, where 157 were reported, but high compared to other times of the pandemic.

Until 82,125 people with a positive diagnostic test have died since the virus arrived in Spain, according to the data collected by the Ministry. In the last week, 262 people with a confirmed positive COVID-19 diagnosis have died in Spain.

Likewise, the improvement in the situation is not reflected in the healthcare pressure, which rises again after the 1,047 new entries this weekend (double that of discharges): there are 2,032 patients in the ucis (103 more than on Friday) and the occupation grows to 22%, and 10,441 hospitalized (396 more and 88.8%).

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health this Monday, the ucis occupation has gone from 20.8% on Friday to 21.9% this Monday, and the most worrying situation is in Catalonia, with 49.7% occupancy, followed by Madrid, with 31.3%, and Aragon, with 22.5%.

At the opposite extreme are La Rioja, with 71 patients in the ward and 11 in ucis, and Navarra, with 92 and 21.

Between July 30 and August 5, the autonomous communities have performed 1,081,897 diagnostic tests, of which 701,704 have been PCR and 380,193 antigen tests, with an overall rate per 100,000 inhabitants of 2,300.63. The overall positivity rate stands at 13.90 percent, up from 14.57 percent on Friday.

Balearic Islands and La Rioja, the communities with the highest incidence

Regarding the data by communities, the cumulative incidence at 14 days continues throughout Spain above 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The communities at the top of this list are Baleares (750.63 points), The Rioja (662.37) and Navarra (631.13). On the other hand, the regions with the least incidence are Murcia (443,74), Ceuta (344.41) and Asturias (332,26).

In addition, the communities that have registered the highest number of infections this weekend are: Andalusia (8491 diagnosed cases), Catalonia (5595), Madrid (4931) and the Valencian Community (4139).

Spain exceeds 60% of the population with a complete vaccination schedule

The autonomous communities have administered until this Monday a total of 59,108,679 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen COVID-19 vaccines, 566,184 of them during the weekend. This represents 97.8 percent of those distributed, which amount to 60,456,988 units.

In addition, a total of 28,587,458 people have already received the complete guideline, 331,509 more than on Friday. This represents 60.2 percent of the Spanish population. A total of 33,424,529 people have received at least one dose, 70.4 percent of the Spanish.

The data indicate that in this period 41,077,173 doses of Pfizer have been delivered in Spain, with 41,103,596 administered; 6,647,080 corresponding to Moderna, with 6,494,929 already inoculated; 10,084,400 from AstraZeneca, with 9,645,244 injected; and 2,648,335 from Janssen, with which 1,864,910 people have been vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health has provided this information in the activity report of the vaccination process against COVID-19 based on data collected between December 27, 2020, the day the vaccinations began, and August 8.
