Letters from Readers I: Malvinas

Recent public expressions by Beatriz Sarlo about the Malvinas pointing out that they are British in their essence are misleading and demonstrating a lightness of expression on the subject. Although today they are occupied by England, it ignores the historical and geological antecedents that directly relate them to our country and base our claims on that territory. The policy of the current government, totally discursive, in no way helps to solve something so expensive for Argentines as is the claim of sovereignty over the island territory. We must recognize that the islanders are English-speaking Argentines and consequently positive actions should be taken in favor of the natives of the islands that help bring them closer together to achieve their integration without attacking them, as our Constitution says “respecting the way of life of its inhabitants.”
