Tokyo 2020: San Marino, the country that sent 5 athletes and won 3 medals

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games have concluded and one of the most surprising stories has been left by the country of San Marino, that only sent five athletes to the joust and won a total of three medals, leaving a high effectiveness in relation to medals won-competitors.

San Marino is a parliamentary republic and sovereign state surrounded by Italy that does not even reach 34 thousand inhabitants. Despite this, in Tokyo 2020 managed to win three medals, although his delegation consisted of only five athletes:

  • Myles Nazem Amine
  • Alessandra Perilli
  • Paolo Persoglia
  • Arianna Valloni

The competitors who got medals, in individual category, were Perilli in olympic pit (bronze and first medal in the history of the country) and Amine in wrestling 86 kilograms (bronze).

The third medal that was hung San Marino it was in the test of olympic pit in mixed teams. The silver won in this competition was in charge of Alessandra Perilli Y Gian Marco Berti.

Thanks to the three medals obtained in Tokyo 2020, San Marino was located in position 72 of the Olympic medal table, remaining positions above countries such as Mexico, which led the Olympic Games to more than 160 athletes, and culminated in position 84.
