US investigate mysterious disappearance of whiskey bottle offered by Japan

The US State Department is investigating the disappearance of a five thousand euro bottle of whiskey offered by the Japanese government, in June 2019, to former Secretary of State in Donald Trump’s administration, Mike Pompeo, who claims he never received the gift.

The gift never came to me. I have no idea how the State Department lost this bottle”, the former secretary of state told the Fox News.

William Burck, Mike Pompeo’s lawyer, told the Wall Street Journal that your customer “doesn’t remember having received the whiskey bottle and has no knowledge of its whereabouts”.

In the United States, employees are prohibited from accepting personal gifts from foreign governments. However, so as not to cause embarrassment, the gifts are handed over to government archives.

The issue of a Cabinet official receiving gifts from foreign governments is a serious one. If it turns out that Pompeo’s Secretary took this $5,800 bottle, he should have declared its existence in the financial report.”, wrote Shaub, the former director of the Government Ethics Office.

Earlier this year, according to CNN, Mike Pompeo and his wife, Susan Pompeo, were found to have violated some federal rules by making more than 100 personal, non-work-related requests such as hairdressing appointments.
