VIDEO: Revelation Noor Vidts is 2nd after day 1 of heptathlon, Thiam is in 3rd place

Norwegian Vidts, already good for silver at the European Indoor Championships this winter, showed today that she came to Tokyo in blood form. Vidts flirted with a personal best in the high jump and smashed her PRs in the 100m hurdles, shot put and 200m. After day 1 she has a bonus of no less than 275 points on her PR in the heptathlon.

Reigning Olympic champion Nafi Thiam was unable to deliver a brilliant performance on the 1st day. Thiam performed well in the high jump and shot put and also ran well in the 100m hurdles and the 200m, but remained above her personal best on every track.

And so it is not Nafi Thiam who is in the lead after day 1, but the surprising Dutch Anouk Vetter. She has a lead of 27 points on Vidts and 47 points on Thiam in the standings.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson, the reigning world champion and on paper the biggest competitor for Thiam, will not be seen again tomorrow. The British suffered an injury during the 200 meters and felt her already damaged ankle.
