The mayor of the district of Bamako, Adama Sangaré a was placed under warrant of committal yesterday Monday 2 August 2021 by the Bamako Economic Center. The information fell when the eyes of Malians were on the National Transitional Council to follow the debate on the government’s general policy statement.

The powerful mayor who has run Bamako City Hall for 13 years returns to his cell at the Bamako Central Detention Center after provisional release accompanied by the payment of a deposit.

Released on Friday May 22, 2020 by the indictment chamber of the Economic Pole, he will have spent eight months in detention. Eight long months during which he will have been in the sights of the investigators of the Economic Pole of the tribunal de grande instance of Commune III of the district of Bamako. He is accused of forgery and use of forgery and attack on public funds in the context of a case dating back to 2010 and relating to the procurement of public lighting for nearly 500 million CFA francs.

This project, which was part of the fiftieth anniversary of Mali, the district town hall was the contracting authority and the EDM, the delegated contracting authority. It should be noted that the contract was signed by the district town hall, the EDM and the company ESOT-SA, on the proposal of the EDM. According to some sources, theEDM was responsible, as delegated contracting authority, for the monitoring and execution of the project in question. As such, it submitted the payment drafts for the signature of the mayor of Bamako.

This return of the mayor of the district of Bamako between the four walls of Bamako-Coura is by no means a surprise for those familiar with the judicial procedure. The main actor of this soap opera knew very well that his provisional release against hundreds of millions was not the end of the process. In other words, he knew he could be back to bar to respond to a summons from the judge on the same file.
