The Minister of Economy of the Nation, Martin Guzman, reappeared this Sunday on Argentine television. It was during an extensive interview with Hagan Algo (C5N), where the official touched on all the issues that fall within his area. From the inflation, the dollar and the debt with him International Monetary Fund (IMF) up to one overwhelming answer a Roberto García Moritan, husband of the model Pampita Y pre-candidate a deputy on the Buenos aires city for the party of Ricardo López Murphy.
Regarding inflation, the head of the Palacio de Hacienda stated that “it is the main objective of macroeconomic policy”, while he objected that “it is a problem that the previous government promised that it would reduce to one digit and it did not happen” . Likewise, he considered that “it is a phenomenon of multiple causes. It is not purely monetary as the previous administration proposed or as some who are in the campaign now propose ”. And he completed by stating that “month-on-month inflation is on a decreasing trend.”
When asked about the rates, Guzmán assured that the Government “is working” on a path that “is the segmentation of subsidies.” “In a pandemic it was difficult to finish the task, but the Executive is working hard. We hope next year to be able to have an appropriate segmentation of the subsidies ”, he predicted. At this same point, he once again charged against the macrista management, which left “subsidies that have to do with a resolution of gas, which committed itself to enormous amounts.”
The dollar: the situation of the ‘blue’ and the reaction against Pampita’s husband
Regarding the dollar, always a matter of concern in the Argentine population, the national official ruled out making the exchange restrictions more flexible, saying “it takes time for the Central Bank to accumulate reserves.” In this way, he said that the Casa Rosada points “to a horizon where the regulations are different, that is, a scheme of macro prudential regulations that discourage speculation.” To do this, he said, “it takes time, because the Central Bank needs to accumulate reserves at higher levels,” he warned.
As for the parallel or ‘blue’, he said that it is a “small market, with a volume that small operations generate changes that can be important in the price.” “It went up, but in recent days it was going down,” he stressed. And against this, the economist said: “Today we have the instruments to be able to keep the exchange gap between the official and the parallel stable.”
On the other hand, he attacked the candidate García Moritán, who in radio statements had asserted that the dollar would rise to $ 400 after the legislative elections. In response to this, Guzmán declared: “We must not dwell on things that lack seriousness. There are interests at stake and each one decides what he does the things he does for ”.
In contrast to the statement of Pampita’s husband, the head of the Treasury spoke of a “promising horizon” to face the post-pandemic. “Before the second wave, Argentina had been traveling a path of recovery superior to most of the countries in the region,” said an expectant Guzmán, while acknowledging that to face the pandemic the Government had to prioritize health and adopt restrictions that affected the economy, although always “protecting the productive capacities of the economy and the sectors that are most vulnerable,” he said.
Money transfers from the United States and the debt with the IMF
“In the context of the pandemic, a group of many countries advocated for the IMF to make a new allocation of special drawing rights (SDR) and that it can be distributed among member countries so that you have more liquidity,” explained the official. , and said: “in 2021, after the change of government in the United States, the wills were changed. It is something that we celebrate and that was due to positive leadership. Argentina will receive 4,354 million, which are welcome, “he said.
That sum, Guzmán advanced, will allow “to have more capacity for action for everything that Argentina has to face economically.” Along these lines, he revealed that the national government “has proposed that a mechanism be created to redistribute these SDRs from the countries that do not need it to those that can give it better. They are working on that ”, he assured.
Finally, he spoke about the debt that the country has with the IMF. “What we are doing is negotiating with the IMF to resolve the damage that the previous administration did to Argentina,” attacked the official, and assured that “the priority is to obtain a good agreement based on our vision of what the way to reassure the Argentine economy ”. Regarding a possible date, “all possibilities are open,” Guzmán suspended, acknowledging that the faster and better, “the better” for the country’s situation, he closed.
