Only 45 percent of Russians hang up after greeting them when they realize that they are being called by scammers. At the same time, 25 percent of citizens continue to talk with malefactors in order to “troll” them, while the rest, out of curiosity, try to find out if the criminals are calling them. This was reported by Izvestia with reference to a survey conducted by VTB Bank.
According to the survey, 76 percent of residents have experienced telephone scams. It is noted that about half of the respondents have protection against unwanted calls on their phones, while 84 percent of respondents still answer calls from hackers.
According to Alexander Gerasimov, Information Security Director of Awillix, when calling from scammers, you should immediately hang up. He said that a person during a conversation can accidentally communicate some important information about himself. Also, you should not joke or infuriate the attackers, since after a conversation they can use various services that will send spam to the subscriber or constantly make calls to the number, the expert added.
Earlier, information security specialist Alexander Vlasov named ways to protect against a new type of online fraud – fake prize draws through instant messengers. “There is supposedly a drawing, and you need to follow the link to find out the amount of your winnings. By clicking on the link, a person gets to a fraudulent site, which may look like the site of some well-known organization (manufacturer, messenger, bank, lottery), “Vlasov explained.
