Transition: Leading politicians demand "scrupulous respect of the deadline" initially planned

By taking the oath, after having overthrown President Bah N’Daw, Colonel Assimi GOITA had sworn to hold the elections within the timeframe provided for by the Transition Charter. But contrary signals emanating from the new authorities of the transition do not reassure a part of the political class.– Bocary Treta, president of the RPM; Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga, former Prime Minister and President of ASMA; Moussa Mara, former Prime Minister and President of YELEMA, Tièmoko Sangaré, President of ADEMA; Coqueini Amion Guindo, President of CODEM; Younouss Hamèye Dicko, president of the RDS; Blaise Sangaré, president of CDS Mogotiguiya. All these political leaders, and many more, gathered on Monday July 26 for a joint declaration on the transition.

In the declaration read by Moussa Mara, the political leaders reaffirm their support for all initiatives for the success of the transition. However, they assert, the country’s lasting exit from the crisis cannot be achieved with the actions of the transition alone. The next ‘more legitimate’ power must prepare to carry out the necessary reforms.

Also, at the Hotel de l’Amitié, the political leaders underlined their “Commitment to scrupulous respect for the transition period”. They demand that the presidential election be held on the date of February 22, 2022 chosen by the former authorities of the transition, in particular Moctar Ouane and Bah N’Daw, still in detention.

The declaration, which will be “transmitted” to the authorities and partners of Mali, requires the transitional authorities to show their commitment to the deadline provided for by the Charter by publishing a detailed chronogram of the actions to be carried out in the coming days.
