Blasia Gómez Reinoso is the first trans woman to be a candidate for Mayor

Blasia Gómez Reinoso, a retiree who worked 35 years in teaching, appears in the upcoming Simultaneous and Compulsory Open Primary elections (PASO) of Catamarca as a pre-candidate for mayor of the Los Altos municipality. In this way, Blasia became the first trans woman to present herself as a candidate for the leadership of a municipality in Argentina.

“Everything happened in a very short time, how things happen in life and how opportunities happen and it was not easy for me in the first instance, because sometimes when one achieves a certain tranquility and wants to stay there. But I characterize myself for the opposite, my life was always action, movement, it was struggle, “said the candidate for municipal chief, in dialogue with Radio Nacional Catamarca.

In addition to teaching, Blasia was a director and mid-level supervisor. In Catamarca, she is a pioneer in exercising the rights of diversity, she was the first person from the neighboring province to access equal marriage, and also to change her identity.

“When they came to propose this to me, I first got scared because one is never prepared for new changes, but I also told myself, Blasia, you are capable, you can, you like the idea,” he said, after the proposal he received from the Front With You We Can , which heads the GEN.

“This is also thinking about all women, all trans women, the entire LGBTIQ + collective and all of society, because the truth is that we have to cheer ourselves up. In life everything that one dreams can be done. Here both in Los Altos and in the Santa Rosa department, there was never a female candidate, so this is also a historical precedent, ”he highlighted.
