Justice of Peru begins in August the control of the accusation against Fujimori

The Judicial Branch of Peru The impeachment control against former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori will begin on August 31 to determine whether to open a trial for the tax accusation of money laundering during his election campaigns in 2011 and 2016.

The decision was made by Judge Víctor Zúñiga, magistrate of the Fourth Criminal Court of Preparatory Investigation Specialized in Organized Crime, local media reported this Friday.

Zúñiga communicated his decision after concluding the evaluation stage of the criminal complaint filed against Fujimori and others implicated in the investigation carried out by prosecutor José Domingo Pérez, a member of the special team in the Lava Jato case in Peru.

The magistrate specified that the prosecution control sessions will last until September 1 and will have a “non-postponed nature”, which has already notified the Public Ministry as well as all the parties involved in the process.

Pérez presented on March 11 an accusation for the alleged commission of the crimes of money laundering and criminal organization against Fujimori, after an investigation that lasted for more than two years, and requested that the leader of the Fuerza Popular party receive 30 years and 10 months in prison,

The tax indictment, which includes more than 15,000 pages, indicated that Fujimori had concealed, through fictitious accounting, donations from large companies, such as $ 3.6 million from Credicorp and one million from the construction company Odebrecht to finance his electoral campaigns. 2011 and 2016.

Pérez included 40 people in his accusation, including Fujimori’s husband, Mark Vito Villanella, for who asked for 22 years and 8 months in prisonn, as well as for several leaders of Fuerza Popular and those close to the former candidate.

Fujimori has lost the three consecutive presidential elections to which he has run, in 2011 against the nationalist Ollanta Humala, in 2016 against the right-wing Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and this year against the leftist Pedro Castillo.
