Heung-min Son has been accused of lacking ambition and not “worried about winning things” by signing his new deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

The South Korean international, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, will now stay at the North London club until 2025 after securing an exceptional salary increase.

Danny Murphy accused Heung-min Son of lacking ambition by staying at Spurs

He has been a key Spurs player since joining, scoring 107 goals in 280 appearances and forming a deadly partnership with Harry Kane.

The 29-year-old is now expected to end most of his career at the club.

As Kane appears determined to leave the north London squad, Son’s decision to stay upset Danny Murphy and the former Spurs midfielder called him out for an apparent lack of ambition.

“The players are very different,” Murphy said of White and Jordan. “When someone is happy, enjoying life and enjoying their football, not everyone wants the same things.

“I’m sure he’s getting a good financial deal, but there’s a good chance he won’t win much in the next two years at Tottenham.

“This is the honest fact.

“So he obviously doesn’t care about winning things.”

“I’m talking about the fact that every player is different in terms of what he expects from life, from football and from his career,” added Murphy.

“It suggests, to me, that he kind of gave up. He might think Tottenham can turn the tide and, I don’t know, somehow compete.

“But most of the people who know football don’t see that happening next season or the next few seasons, if we’re honest, with the power of Chelsea, Liverpool and City.

“He gave up on that, I think. “

Spurs entered the Europa League last season under Ryan Mason, with the former England midfielder temporarily succeeding Jose Mourinho.

However, Daniel Levy eventually appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as the club’s new boss as the former Wolves keeper looked for new opportunities away from Molineux.

And Simon Jordan believes the Portuguese could breathe new life into the club, something Son may have acknowledged himself.

He said: “The point is, he’s engaged his future, regardless of what Harry Kane does or doesn’t do, tells you Tottenham are not in disarray.

“It tells you that there won’t be a teardown of Tottenham just because Harry Kane leaves, if he leaves.”

“And I think that’s great news for Tottenham and it also shows you that players of the Son genre, which are sought-after commodities, need to buy into the vision.”
