The leader of the CDS-PP, Francisco Rodrigues dos Santos, said this Saturday that the country no longer trusts Minister Eduardo Cabrita, whom he nicknamed “minister always standing”, adding that bets are already made on when he will be replaced.
Eduardo Cabrita has become a kind of minister who is always standing, polemic after polemic, scandal after scandal, does not take responsibility, does not speak the truth to the Portuguese and does not leave this Government, thus giving António Costa a ray of credibility.” said the leader of the CDS.
Rodrigues dos Santos was speaking in Sever do Vouga, in the district of Aveiro, during the celebrations of the 47th anniversary of the CDS and where Ricardo Silva’s candidacy for local authority was presented.
In his speech, the leader of the Christian Democrats accused Eduardo Cabrita of having lied in parliament when “he did not assume that it was his responsibility that the celebrations [do título do Sporting] had occurred under those conditions”.
The IGAI and PSP report is very clear: the celebrations for the national football title were authorized by Minister Eduardo Cabrita”, he said, defending that this “culture of impunity, of passing on blame, where no one assumes their responsibilities has, once and for all, to end”.
He also referred that, over the last few years, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “has collected a history of lies, of negligence responsibility, with very serious consequences” for the country, which are “a stain on the name of this Government”.
The country no longer trusts Eduardo Cabrita and has been calling for his departure from the Government for a long time.“, he said, stating that the governor remains in office because he is part of “a small and restricted group of PS militants who have ruled the country for many years and belong to the most intimate cycle of the prime minister’s personal trust.”
The centrist leader also launched a last appeal for the Minister of Internal Administration to abandon his duties, noting that the criticism of Eduardo Cabrita “has become national sport” and “there are already bets on when he will be replaced by António Costa” .
In his speech in Sever do Vouga, Rodrigues dos Santos also criticized the “pornographic level” of taxes that the Government practices on fuels, arguing that it is urgent that the next legislative session starts thinking about a “brutal” tax cut, to save families, boost economic activity and send incentives to companies.
He also left internal messages, stating not to count on him to “cultivate disagreements or divisions” within the CDS, adding that his focus, at this moment, is the local authorities.
I’m by my side and mine are all the militants of this party who strive in every county, in every land, to give the CDS a victory on September 26th and then we will do the math for the work done and evaluate the merit of our effort and our commitment”, concluded.
