The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, assured that “the government’s number one priority” is to complete the vaccination schedule for people who were vaccinated less than 90 days ago with a dose and confirmed that, for this, his portfolio “is doing an important job” of negotiations with the Fund for Direct Investments of Russia (FIDR).
“With Astrazeneca and Sinopharm, the (two-dose) regimens are being completed without any problems. With Sputnik V we have people who are reaching 90 days after receiving the first dose and we are going to have a strategy to resolve that tension”Said the official.
“The number one priority of the Government is to have second doses of Sputnik V for people who are reaching the 90-day deadline” between one dose and another, the official emphasized during an interview on Radio 10.
The objective is to decompress the lack of vaccines with the Russian Federation, which yesterday had a new media chapter with the publication of a private email between the advisor Cecilia Nicolini and those responsible for the FIDR, which dates from two weeks ago.
The counterpoint evidenced in that email had already been settled, but the fact also served for Argentina to redouble its demand for delays and for the Russian Federation to commit to providing immediate responses.
“The work we are doing with the Russian Federation is important”
In this frame, Vizzotti asked “tranquility” to the people who were vaccinated with a dose of Sputnik V, one of the vaccines with the highest levels of efficacy against Covid-19. “This does not mean that it is not important to complete the schedule” of two doses, clarified the minister.
What The official transmitted the guarantees of her portfolio to “resolve that tension”. “The work we are doing with the Russian Federation is important”, both for the “arrival of more second doses” and for the shipment of the active substance so that the laboratory Richmond produce these vaccines in Argentina.
According to calculations, “The first days of August” the doses prepared in the country will be ready, to be distributed throughout the territory, advanced Vizzotti, who once again denied that Argentina had signed an “exclusive contract” with Russia for the purchase of vaccines. “There was no such condition at any time. It is an absolute fantasy that has nothing of truth, “he said.
The Delta variant in Argentina
On the other hand, the minister confirmed that there are 29 cases of Delta variant detected in the country. All are isolated, 28 came from trips and 1 is a person who does not know if he is close contact of a traveler, he said.
For now “We have not had identification of the Delta variant unrelated to a trip”, reported the official. “People with the antigen have been detected at the Ezeiza Airport but the majority are people who experienced symptoms during isolation,” he added.
This shows the effectiveness of isolations in hotels for Argentines coming from abroad. “The arrival of Delta variant cases was expected, we knew it was going to happen and that is why these measures were taken,” he said and stressed that with what has been done so far “the entry of the variant is being delayed as much as possible”.
