The entrance to cinemas, theaters, museums and events of more than 50 people in France will be subject from this Wednesday to the presentation of the coronavirus vaccination certificate or a recent negative test, according to the latest restriction ordered by the authorities before the imminence of the fourth wave of infections.

The restrictions imposed on certain sporting events and fairs have already entered into force and as of August, these measures will be extended to long-distance trains, bars, restaurants, shopping centers and hospitals.

The president, Emmanuel Macron, called for today a new defense council to address the advancement of the Delta variant at a time when the country is facing the fourth wave of infections, with a “high risk”.

“This time you are staying at home, not us,” is the phrase that resonated the most in the president’s speech delivered last week and that achieved a massive enrollment of citizens to be immunized.

Government spokesman Gabriel Attal noted that more than half of the population received at least one dose of the vaccine.

During the weekend, thousands of people took to the streets to protest against the new government measures, while several vaccination centers were vandalized.

The Delta variant continues its expansion in France, where some 18,000 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.
