Arrested in Estepona for accessing 130 Twitter accounts, including those of Biden, Obama and Bill Gates

A British citizen has been arrested in Estepona (Malaga), accused of illegally accessing 130 accounts of the social network Twitter, including several of relevant personalities from the political and financial world of the United States like Joe Biden, Barack Obama or Bill Gates.

The National Police Corps reported this Wednesday through its Twitter account of this operation, called Portland and developed with the FBI which has revealed that among the victims of the arrested are US President Biden and one of his predecessors in the position.

The detainee is accused of the crimes of cyber threats, cyber extortion and cyberbullying, as indicated by the Spanish Police.

According to the SUR newspaper, it is about a young man of 22 years that directed the millions of followers of the affected profiles towards a scam in which Bitcoin payments were offered.

The arrest took place on Tuesday by agents of the National Police Corps after a international order dictated from the United States.

The trail of the great ‘hack’ of a year ago

The investigation began in July of last year, indicates the website of the Malaga newspaper, when the accounts of numerous public figures, such as politicians or businessmen Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, were victims of a computer attack, as well as companies such as Apple or Uber.

The detainee is also charged with a cyber bullying of a youth victim and it could be behind a digital attack on other social networks.
