The former vice president and former leader of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, will join a research group at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) center, attached to the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) in September.

According to Europa Press in sources around him, the former vice president has attended a public call after submitting your resume, given that he has a doctorate in Political Science, and has been selected to join this research group on September 15, with a annual gross salary of 8,400 euros.

In this way, he returns to the university as I already pointed out in an interview, after leaving politics on May 4 and after running as a candidate of United We Can to the Madrid elections.

“I feel very honored to have been selected by the UOC to work as a researcher as of mid-September. One of my priorities was to return to university work,” Iglesias has transferred to his environment.

The project, which is expected to last one year, is intended to identify different political discourses on social media, analyze their meanings and key agents, ideologically situate these discourses and analyze their transformations and relationships over time.

It was then an unpaid talk and a specific intervention, after being invited by the organizers of the aforementioned course, with a small group of doctoral candidates in Political Sciences, within the framework of the institution where he was an associate professor before promoting Podemos.

He also gave an interview to the Italian newspaper The print, published yesterday, and assured that his exit from politics “is not a defeat” before the “deep state” and thinks that there is a “price” for “closing the possibility of the PSOE allying itself with the right again.”

After his departure from active politics, Podemos held its fourth state Citizen Assembly that elected the Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, as the new secretary of the purple formation.


Along with his political career, Iglesias has a long academic career, with a PhD in Political Science, a Bachelor of Laws (both from the UCM) and other postgraduate studies, as a Master in Humanity from the Carlos III University.

Also, among other achievements, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Metropolitan University of Buenos Aires, and has other awards and distinctions, such as the ‘Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz’ Medal from the Plurinational Legislative Assembly of Bolivia.

In addition, he has participated in different research groups in the field of social sciences. For example, he was responsible for the project ‘The cinema to understand the fundamental concepts of the social sciences’.
