Ukraine has denied the revision of its geopolitical course. This was announced by the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the republic, Oleg Nikolenko, on his Facebook page.
According to him, the country’s goal remains membership in the European Union (EU) and NATO. “The question of whether the West or the East is not in the paradigm of Ukrainian foreign policy,” he stressed.
Nikolenko noted that Ukraine highly appreciates the support of the US and the EU in “countering Russian aggression” and “de-occupation of Crimea and Donbass.” He added that Ukraine “is doing a lot of work to become a modern European democratic state,” and called this path inevitable.
At the same time, Nikolenko drew attention to the fact that the Ukrainian authorities do not intend to “artificially restrain” the development of relations with other states. In his opinion, this is why the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy set the task for the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Dmitry Kuleba, to develop relations with countries in other regions of the world, in particular – Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Nikolenko’s words were in response to the assertion of a freelance adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Oleksiy Arestovich, that Ukraine could “turn” to China. He noted that he does not exclude such a turn, if Western countries force Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements. “The Chinese, unlike the States, do not hesitate to give guarantees and security, and investments instantly, instantly and without any fools,” Arestovich emphasized.
