The shipment was received by the chief of staff, Santiago Cafiero, who thanked the US authorities and stressed that the donation is the “most important” that has been made in the region.
“Being the trustees of this donation, it represents to us that we have reached 36 and a half million vaccines in the Argentine territory and this is the product of the President’s determination to advance in cooperation, with the care of sovereign assets, with the take care of Argentina and also of Argentine men and women and thus be able to get these vaccines and many more that will be arriving ”, said Cafiero.
The donation was made possible by the decree of necessity and urgency (DNU) issued by the Executive Power on July 3, which allowed the signing of an agreement with the Moderna Inc. laboratory for the supply of 20 million doses of its drug against Covid-19 or equivalent doses as a booster.
Also present at the reception ceremony was the Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Argentina, Mary Key.
The first of the flights to arrive at Ezeiza, with registration LV-FNL, departed on Wednesday at 7:12 p.m. from Ezeiza, landed in Memphis at 3:27 on Thursday, and touched down again in Ezeiza at 10:53 p.m.
While the second, registration LV-FVH, departed from Ezeiza yesterday at 8:59 a.m., arrived in the North American city at 5:57 p.m. and landed again in Ezeiza at 11:00 p.m.
Before, the Airbus 330-200, registration LV-FVI is 768 thousand doses of Sinopharm, landed at the Ezeiza international airport at 5.30 p.m. after having departed yesterday afternoon from Beijing and after having made a technical stopover at the airport in Barajas, Madrid, for refueling.
Adding the doses that arrived from China today and those of Moderna that arrived tonight – which mark a record of vaccines received in a 24-hour period – Argentina exceeds 36 million doses since the beginning of the population inoculation plan.
So far, in total, 36,291,730 doses have arrived, of which 11,868,830 correspond to Sputnik V, (9,375,670 for component 1 and 2,493,160 for component 2); 10,608,000 to Sinopharm; 580,000 to AstraZeneca-Covishield, 1,944,000 to AstraZeneca through the WHO Covax mechanism, 7,790,900 to those of AstraZeneca and Oxford whose active ingredient was produced in Argentina and 3,500,000 doses of Moderna.
