Netflix continues with its plans to become the reference leisure platform For the users. In 2022 it is preparing to take a step beyond the current offer of movies, series and entertainment programs and plans to include video games in its catalog, as reported by Bloomberg.

This decision is not a surprise in the industry. It was only a matter of time that Netflix decided to offer video games. In 2019, during one of his shareholders’ meetings, Reed Hastings claimed that his big competitor was not HBO, Amazon or any other service of streaming, otherwise Fortnite, because what Netflix competed for was free time of its users.

One of Netflix’s main goals is to keep its users on their platform for as long as possible and this is a great move in that regard. To lead it, hired Mike Verdu, former creative director of Zinga, responsible for games for Oculus and with experience in companies such as Electronic Arts where he worked on sagas such as Star Wars, Los Sims O Plants vs. Zombies.

The idea is that Netflix not only distribute the games, but that it also becomes a developer of its own titles and exclusively, which in turn represent an expansion of the narratives of some of their original series, as could be the case of Stranger Things. And that it is not necessary to download another application, but that this content can be accessed from the platform that all its users already have installed.
