If you are traveling and have not yet taken the second dose of the covid-19 vaccine, please know that it is now possible to take it in advance, as long as you meet one of the requirements defined by the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

According to point 8 of norm 2 of the vaccination campaign, it is possible to anticipate the taking of the second dose, regardless of age or health condition, as long as it is a “urgent reason”.

The interval between doses, in vaccines with a two-dose vaccine schedule, can be, exceptionally, anticipated”, can be read in the document, updated on Monday.

And what are these exceptions?

For the second dose to be anticipated, it must be “proven urgent or unavoidable trips”, i.e:

  • Need for cross-border healthcare;
  • Diplomatic or State representation;
  • humanitarian missions;
  • Duly substantiated labor obligations;
  • Duly substantiated academic obligations.

The exception also applies to people who have to anticipate the second dose “before the start of immunosuppressive therapies, or other duly substantiated clinical acts”.

Fonte da DGS disse to TVI24 that this advance request must be made at the health centers where the users are registered, since there is no proper space or a helpline where they can do so.

DGS even advertised the anticipation on its social networks, but ended up deleting the posts on Twitter and Instagram, as its content will be improved.
