The Carnival Vista cruise ship, from Carnival Cruise Line, docked this Tuesday in the paradise island of Roatán, in the Caribbean of Honduras, becoming the first international ship to arrive in the country since the beginning of the pandemic, official sources reported.
The ship anchored early today with around 3,000 tourists and marks the restart of activity of cruises in Honduras after 15 months paralyzed due to the crisis derived from the covid-19 pandemic.
“We are very happy, all the people of the island are very excited about the arrival of this shipIt is an opportunity to start over after so many months that we have been waiting for the return of the cruise ships, an atmosphere of hope is felt among the islanders, “said the Honduran Minister of Tourism, Nicole Marrder.
The senior official welcomed tourists traveling through the Caribbean on the boat and stressed the importance of the paradisiacal island of Roatán as a tourist destination in Honduras.
Visitors can enjoy experiences such as diving, snorkeling, zip line, deep sea and mangrove fishing, encounter with dolphins and kayaking in the sea, among others.
“This is a very timely cruise return for the island of Roatán and we are all very happy, “emphasized Marrder.
Local authorities estimate that on average each tourist spends at least $ 80 during their eight-hour stay in Honduras.
The Carnival Vista plans to dock every Tuesday in July at the Mahogany Bay dock in Roatán, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
Roatán, which together with Utila and Guanaja make up the department of Islas de la Bahía, is the main tourist destination of Honduras in the Caribbean, surrounded by several keys and small islands, crystal clear waters, coral reefs and lots of natural forest beauty, among other attractions. .
The Bay Islands, along with other small islands, islets and cays, are located on what constitutes the second largest reef in the world, encompassing several countries in the Caribbean.
