This Sunday, the President of the Republic lamented the death of a volunteer firefighter from Carnaxide who died on Saturday while providing assistance to victims of a road accident, considering her “a national example of generosity and altruism”.
It was with deep consternation that the President of the Republic learned of the death of firefighter Catarina Pedro, who belongs to the Voluntary Fire Department of Carnaxide and who was run over on July 3rd. [sábado], when out of service, provided assistance to parties involved in a road accident on Highway 5, in Oeiras”, refers to a note posted on the Presidency’s website.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa points out that “even out of service, the firefighter Catarina Pedro did not hesitate to help her neighbor, being a national example of generosity and altruism”.
The President of the Republic addresses his condolences to the family of Bombeira Catarina Pedro, which are extended to his friends, as well as to all members of the Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Carnaxide”, adds the note.
Also the Minister of Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita, issued a note of regret to mourn the death of the volunteer firefighter in Carnaxide, when she was helping victims of an off-duty accident.
In his personal name and that of the Government, the minister addressed “the most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, the Fire Department, the Humanitarian Association of Firefighters of Carnaxide and the Firefighters of Portugal”.
The Voluntary Fire Department of Carnaxide, where the victim worked, on their Facebook page, also claim that it is with “huge sadness” that they communicate the death of their colleague, “victim of a road accident”, on Saturday, “when she was helping another conductor”.
