An animated adaptation of 'Night of the Living Dead' is underway

A few weeks ago we learned that Suzanne Romero, widow of George A. Romero, had undertaken an initiative to bring to the cinema his script of Twilight of the Dead. Her iconic horror filmmaker husband had left her extensive zombie saga unfinished, and Twilight of the Dead came to “correct” the direction it had taken from its last two, and not much celebrated, expansions: Diary of the dead Y The resistance of the dead. Romero passed away in 2017, and four years later it seems that the industry is turning to a belated tribute; not only thanks to the progress of his wife, but also from a project that he echoes The Hollywood Reporter.

According to this medium, Warner Bros. plans to produce an animated film based on The night of the Living Dead, Romero’s film that not only inaugurated his famous franchise in 1968 but also, well, spurred the zombie subgenre itself. More than 50 years after the premiere of this milestone, the studio wants to launch an animated film (Night of the Animated Dead) that already has interpreters like Josh Duhamel, Katee Sackhoff O Will Sasso giving voice to the characters. Its director is Jason Axinn, which debuted in 2019 with an applauded animated horror film, Until your last death.

If it comes to fruition, it is not at all unreasonable that Warner herself wants to continue the saga through the acclaimed continuations of The night of the Living Dead: Zombie (released in 1978 and decades later the subject of an effective remake at the hands of Zack Snyder, Dawn of the Dead), The day of the Dead (1985) and The land of the undead (2005). The remake animated of The night of the Living Dead It will be released directly to the domestic market by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, released on DVD and BluRay starting this fall.
