Sinaloa.- The Mazatlan playwright, actress and teacher Teresa Diaz del Guante presented his recent book titled Aroma, which won the Emilio Carballido National Award.
A book that captures the motherhood of mothers with missing children who call themselves Las Rastreadoras de El Fuerte and Sabuesos Guerreras, who smell and tear in the earth in search of their treasures, of some bone to guide them to their children.
A book full of angry and powerful dialogues that questions and digs into the wound, and portrays the experiences of these mothers in that stormy search.

Aroma is not a work about enforced disappearance, it is rather a work about motherhood, so you will not see here the morbid or the exposure of the body or violence, what strikes me about this is seeing women scratching the earth, waving the rod to look for her children, the writer expressed during the presentation at the Gilberto Owen Public Library in Culiacán, within the framework of the ISIC’s “Arturo Castañeda Dueñas” Spring Festival 2021.

The book, said the author, is part of an investigative work started in 2017 called “Aroma Project”, about the forced disappearance in Sinaloa, carrying out searches with Las Rastreadoras del Fuerte and Sabuesos Guerreras.
“In December 2017 I started a project about the disappearance without having anything, just having the news, but this project did not reach port, and I went on a search to Las Higueritas in Los Mochis, with Las Rastreadoras de El Fuerte. We were in the truck and at some point one of them suddenly braked, and those who were behind were concerned, why was it braking and their answer was that ‘I think there is an aroma’ and then they got out, did a test, and nothing … that word was recorded, ”said the founder of the group La Terca Teatro.
“Then I realized that they use this word as a code to refer to the fact that there is a body, and it caught my attention because from there, I think, motherhood begins to glimpse.”
Therefore, Aroma is a work from motherhood. I think that when they determine it is like a way of seeing violence, a maternal way of covering what is already violent in itself. From there, Aroma is a great metaphor that not only encompasses this work, but also three pieces. “
Lizet Norzagaray commented that “this is a book that hurts us deeply, showing us the reality that we have wanted to ignore so much. It gives us friendship, company, anguish, it gives us so much that it seems that we lose ourselves in the information network when in reality we are immersed in it ”.
The book, he added, is a new path that opens in the theater of Sinaloa, it is a new path through the seven characters and that addresses the forced disappearance in Mexico, from the perspective of the mourners … A work as powerful as it is tender and everyday, especially everyday ”.
Coraima Mena, in turn, expressed that in the book “there is a hint of anger that is always expressed through angry and powerful dialogues, dialogues that question, that dig into the wound, and show us how these women are victimized one and again.

The work won the Emilio Carballido National Prize and was selected at the WPI, Women Playwrights International Montreal 2022, and edited by the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and the Veracruzana University, and the centerpiece of three called the Aroma and Sabueso Project.
