CDMX.- The businessman Carlos Slim, whose company Grupo Carso built part of line 12 of the Mexico City metro that collapsed on May 3 and left 26 dead, offered this Tuesday to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrado to rehabilitate the part that collapsed.
In addition, he was convinced that the work was designed by “the best calculators in Mexico”, it was well built and “has no original defects.”
“What I suggested (to the president) is that regardless of everything, our interest in rehabilitating the section that we did as soon as possible (…) restructuring, rehabilitating, this important so that people can continue to use it,” said the tycoon. to the media after a meeting of about two hours with López Obrador.

“The president is leading this idea, this project and we hope that it can be made available to all the people who use it as soon as possible, after 12 months,” Slim added.
Just on June 24, López Obrador promised that in a year at the latest, line 12 of the subway will be operating “in its entirety and in complete safety.”
Two days before, López Obrador had met, behind closed doors in the National Palace, with Slim himself and the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum.

The billionaire considered that the collapse “is a disgrace, but we are convinced that from its origin it had no problem, so much so that it was used by hundreds of millions of people.”
The tragedy in which 26 people died and a hundred were injured occurred on May 3 at night when an elevated bridge of line 12 collapsed in the Tláhuac mayor’s office, in the southeast of the capital, causing the fall of a train with passengers.
In mid-June, the Norwegian company DNV presented the first of its three reports on the causes of the accident in which it pointed to “structural failures” related to construction.

This accident has put in the spotlight the mayor of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the former mayor and current chancellor, Marcelo Ebrard, both from López Obrador’s party and supposed candidates to succeed him in 2024.
