Food guides tend to focus on fine dining restaurants. Elegant places in which they serve exquisite food, but that are usually not available to people in their day to day life. The Repsol Guide, however, has just created a new distinction designed — starting with the name — to be very popular: the solete. An award that rewards small businesses that, without resorting to fireworks, give great joys: beach bars, cafes, pisciburgers, tapas bars, pizzerias, wineries, wine bars, bars, ice cream parlors …
Total, 1,000 establishments throughout Spain and, often, away from the usual gastronomic circuit. Affordable and appetizing places that a friend in the area would recommend, but that do not usually appear in the photo. Places such as, for example, Las Piscinas Bar Restaurant (Benabarre, Huesca), such as Casa César (Alfoz de Quintanadueñas, Burgos) or the Crater Terrace (Iznatoraf, Jaén).
In the Bar Restaurant Las Piscinas, for example, you can eat a “good menu of the day with nods to the local product”. Cesar House, for its part, is a “reference to the lamb from Burgos throughout the province.” And, under the motto “skimming the sky”, in the in the Crater Terrace you can enjoy traditional cuisine in “a privileged viewpoint” of the Natural Park of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas.
Small urban temples
But there are also urban and Instagram-accustomed soletes, such as the cafeteria hipster La Bicicleta or the vegan restaurant Vega (Madrid), the Dellasera ice cream parlor (Logroño), Parking Pizza or A Pluma (Barcelona), Zascandil (Gijón), The Loaf (San Sebastián), Gure Toki (Bilbao), Amigo Camilo (Las Palmas ) …
“This project was born with the spirit of giving birth to the openings of special places throughout the country”, explains María Ritter, director of Guía Repsol.
The soletes, which will be updated three times a year, cover six categories: (1) cafeterias, pastry shops, and ice cream parlors; (2) bars, bars and bars; (3) beach bars and terraces; (4) restaurants and menu of the day; (5) wine bars, wineries and cider houses; (6) and ‘fast good’ (fast food).
