This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) on the basis of the Debt issues in pictures dashboard, which the bureau compiles for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.

BKR listing

You have registered problematic debts if you are in debt rescheduling, are following a procedure with BKR or have registered payment arrears there, are included in the Central Curatorial Office and Administration Register (CCBR), have not paid the health care premium for at least six months, have long payment arrears with the CJIB, have a long allowance or tax debt with the Tax Authorities, or have payment arrears of more than three months with Duo.

Self-employed and flex workers

In October 2020, compared to January of that year, there were more self-employed and flex workers who had problematic debts. It is also relatively more often households with slightly higher incomes that run into problems: fewer households were able to get by on social assistance benefits.

Households with problematic debts also have one or more children living at home more often than average.

Rotterdam

Relatively speaking, most households in Rotterdam have problematic debts: 15.5%. This is followed by Schiedam (13.7%), Lelystad (13.4%), The Hague (13.3%) and Heerlen (13%). At 6.5%, Utrecht has relatively few households with debts for a large city.

The municipalities with the lowest share are Rozendaal, Bunnik and Veere, with 1.3%, 2.5% and 2.9% respectively of households with problematic debts.
