A lot will undoubtedly be said and written about this third stage in the Tour. Rain was not necessary to make it a hectic final. The falls piled up, from a battered Roglic to the fall of Caleb Ewan a few hundred yards from the finish. Tim Merlier did book the second win in a row for Alpecin-Fenix.

1. Jelle Wallays colors flight of the day

At Lotto-Soudal, Jelle Wallays narrowly missed a selection for the Tour every year. In his first year with Cofidis, it was immediately a prize for the Belgian, he was allowed to make his debut in the Tour de France at the age of 32. An eager Wallays immediately wanted to show himself in this Tour and slipped into the race of the day in the third stage. A thank you from Wallays to his team for the trust.

2. Robert Gesink can’t avoid fall Geraint Thomas and gives up

At more than 130 kilometers from the finish, the 2018 Tour winner went down. Geraint Thomas also dragged Robert Gesink and Tony Martin of Jumbo-Visma with him in his fall. The Dutchman in particular fell heavily on his shoulder and had to stop the game. With Gesink, leader Primoz Roglic loses an important servant for the mountain ettapes. Thomas lay there for a moment, but then got back on his bike. His INEOS teammates brought him back into the pack.

Robert Gesink has to give up already in the third stage after a fall.

Not much later Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) also won, with abrasions on the thigh, the Slovenian heaved himself back on his bike. Tadej Pogacar (UAE) also crashed in the final at a good 5 km from the finish.
